IL TEATRO DEI BORGIA is a company managed by the artistic director Gianpiero Borgia and the actress Elena Cotugno, who uses the work of an ensemble of actors from different European countries and trained in the wake of the Russian theatrical tradition.
The Teatro dei Borgia has staged the texts of playwrights of various nationalities, in particular David Greig, Tim Crouch, Matei Visniec, Fabrizio Sinisi, Anders Lustgarter.
Through the production of important shows in Italy and abroad and participating in prestigious national and international festivals (Spoleto’s Festival of the Two Worlds, Edinburgh’s International Fringe Festival, Arcidosso’s Tuscan Culture Festival, Methodika Festival in Stockholm, Todi Festival, City of the 100 Scale Potenza, SUQ Festival of Genoa), as well as opening up to strategic artistic collaborations, the Teatro dei Borgia has now reached levels of entrepreneurial effectiveness and methodological innovation.
In recent years he has used his resources and energies in the design and production of shows inspired by theater classics and in particular Goldoni and Shakespeare, but with an aptitude for novelty and the contemporary, in the search for new dramaturgical and directorial forms in step with the times and involving young audiences or interested in theatrical novelty.
Recently, the Teatro dei Borgia has created two projects, very different from each other but united by the search for the new in the classic, the contemporary in the traditional:
“The Goldoni Project”, a theatrical trilogy composed of “Goldoni’s Gl’innamorati”, “Goldoni’s innkeeper” and “Arlecchino servant of two masters – I do everything myself”;
The modern rehabilitation of Euripides’ Medea from which the “Medea per strada” project was born, of a social nature, which deals with the very current theme of the “foreigner” and in particular those of the exploitation of prostitution, slavery and the trafficking of human beings.
